Special Educational Needs
|
Pupils in St. Paul’s with physical difficulties, specific learning difficulties and moderate learning difficulties are integrated
into school life and have access to a broad and balanced curriculum. We have a Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator,
Mrs Leonard (SENCO), who liaises with parents, classroom assistants, pupils and outside agencies to provide individualised programmes for pupils who require additional support. We also have a specialised learning support teacher Mrs McMullan who works with pupils in small groups or on a one to one basis to help them improve their understanding and performance in the core subjects English, Mathematics and Science.
It is school policy to ensure literacy and numeracy skills are a priority. As a result Individual Education Plans are devised, monitored, and evaluated each year in consultation with the school SENCO, Educational Psychologists and parents to ensure progress is being made. We have a number of full time experienced Classroom and Learning Support Assistants who provide in class support on a daily basis. St. Paul’s welcomes pupils with physical disabilities and has a lift and wheelchair access on all floors.
