St. Paul’s Kilrea 2-13 – St
Patrick's & St. Bridget's Claudy 4-04
On Friday 25th
November St. Paul’s defeated St Patrick's & St. Bridget's Claudy in an
entertaining encounter in blustery conditions at O’Cahan Park Dungiven.
St Paul’s went in to attack
immediately and corner forward Eunan Mc Glinchey hit the net in the first
attack. During the first period Ben O’Kane and Sean Mc Aleese dominated
midfield. Captain Bobby Mullan hit three outstanding points.
However Claudy finished the
first half very strong and hit the St. Paul’s net three times to lead 3-03 to
1-05 at half time.
In the second half St. Paul’s
scored 1-03 in the first five minutes of the second half. They dominated the
rest of the game with players like Mullan, Deighan, O’Kane, Mc Aleese and
O’Neill making sure that the title would remain in Kilrea.
At the final whistle the
supporters flooded the pitch to congratulate their heroes. The Brian Og McKeever
memorial cup was presented to St. Paul’s captain Bobby Mullan by Michael Mc
Laughlin
St. Paul’s U16 Camogie
Our U16 camgoie team had an
outstanding year, reaching the Ulster final against St. Catherine’s Armagh.
This match took place on Saturday 10th December in Moortown.
St. Catherine’s started the
stronger and scored two goals without reply. However St. Paul’s finished the
half very strong with scores from a pointed free by Kate Bradley and a goal on
the stroke of half time by Kate Mc Ferran.
After the restart a point by
Laura O’Hagan left the minimum in the game. During this period of dominates St.
Paul’s had the opportunity to take the lead and a shot by joint captain Niamh
Campbell hit the upright and went wide.
The last ten minutes of the
match was dominated by St. Catherine’s and they scored 1-02 without reply to
leave the final score 3-02 to 1-02 in favour of St. Catherine’s.
Although the girls were
extremely disappointed after the game, they can be very proud of their
performance, as are the whole school community. The majority of this panel are underage next
year so there are high hopes for another successful year in 2012.
